Interview with the Donegal People's Press

By : Aoibheann Diver

Hi Everyone,

For those of you who aren't based in Donegal or didn't manage to get your hands on the Donegal People's Press, I have featured the article here and thank you once again to Aoibheann for asking me to take part. It is always an honour to be featured locally.

Emma (23) is a fashion blogger from Manorcunningham. She has just returned from London, where she was involved in one of most stylish events in the world : London Fashion Week.
She got the opportunity to work with three of the designers who were showcasing at the event. She sat up until 6am sending more than 100 emails to the PR of each designers, with the hope that they would take her on as an intern for the week.
"I didn't have anything to lose" she said "and I live by the motto that what is for you will not pass you". She was ecstatic when she received emails back offering her positions. "As cheesy as it sounds, it was a lifelong dream come true".
Emma started her blog, The Fashion Chair in January 2015 as a way to combine her degree in English with her greatest passion - fashion. She studied English and Spanish for four years in NUI Galway.
After working in retail for six years, Emma decided that it wasn't the route she wanted to take. She wanted to focus on her blog and hasn't looked back since. She aspires to be a fashion stylist or fashion journalist.
"Blogging is a great platform for exposure if you are thinking on progressing into a career in the fashion industry" she said.
The Fashion Chair blog also helped her make her way onto Xpose on TV3 where she was part of the Trend Tackler panel for three episodes. She received the news that she would be on the show just three days before filming.
"It was all go and very exciting" she said "I don't think it all sank in until the cameras started rolling".
Emma has been a fan of the TV show for years, so to see herself on it was truly surreal for her. TV is something she would love to be more involved in if the opportunity were to arise in the future.
The blog started out as a hobby for the fashion enthusiast but it has since become her part-time business as she spent some time working on the business of blogging.
"It's by no means an income that will allow me to jump on a plane to the Caribbean any time soon" she laughed "but it is a little side earner"
Emma faced challenges along the way, the main one being the initial fear of putting herself out there. She says that there can be a lot of negativity associated with blogs but that it shouldn't put you off. She makes sure to reassure herself that for every 10 bad comments, there are 50 positive ones.
Another challenge is the long hours and hard work that is required. "It can take hours to complete just one blog post so you have to be passionate about you write"
She has a few exciting projects in the pipeline but her main focus is on growing and developing the blog to its full potential.
"I am so appreciative for the opportunities that have come my way so far and my first year blogging was more than I ever expected. If the second year is just as good, I will be delighted"
